Freelance Web Design Niche #1 - Hometown Webmaster

Date January 21, 2008

As a hometown Webmaster, you’ll design and host a Website for your local community. Using your research and interviewing skills, you’ll compile lists for the top restaurants, weekly garage sales, and local job postings. How will you make money? By offering advertising to local businesses.

If you have the technical knowledge, you can also track advertising results for sponsored listings. Several third party advertising applications exist to do just this.

These applications allow consumers and businesses to post their own classifieds. All you have to do is setup a merchant account. Your earnings will be sparse until your marketing message spreads.

Take your time in choosing a domain name—don’t make it too long or people won’t remember. Does your community already have a Website? Research ways you can make it better. Think of a ranking system for retail stores or restaurants—post the results online each week or month.

For advertising applications, try www.Hotscripts.com. Pick a solution provider that will install the script for a nominal fee—usually $50 or less. Check out the ratings for each script. You may need technical help and troubleshooting assistance later so choose a provider who guarantees a minimum amount of support.
