Reunion planning is a fairly new freelance opportunity. As the population’s average age increases, high school and college reunions are occuring more often.

To get an idea of the estimated market in your area, count how many high schools and colleges are within a 50 mile radius of your home. For each high school, there is an average of five reunions per year (10, 20, 30, 40, and 50). This doesn’t include the occasional 5 and 15 year reunion.

The same goes for four year colleges in your area. In addition to high schools and colleges, you can also target family and business reunions.

To be a reunion planner, you must be well organized and have the ability to plan small and large reunions. You’ll be competing with online reunion planning sites so you’ll have to prove to potential clients that you can quickly locate class members.

With school reunions, the focus is primarily on the classmates, not the event. If you’re familiar with your area, you can approach the schools themselves as a referral resource. Many former students will contact the schools to find out who’s planning the reunion.

Reunion planners earn their income from money paid by attendees. So, the larger the group of attendees, the more you can make.

You can actually market yourself as a “pay for play” service. This means that you’re only paid for each student you find who pays the event fee. A reuion of 200 people, at $10 per person, will yield you $2,000.

At that rate, you can make a quick $10,000 during the summer on a single high school. To supplement yourself the rest of the year, offer to maintain a class database with the most updated information for each member.

Another add on service is setting up and maintaining a class reunion Website. Even after a reunion is finished, many people want to keep in touch. As a reunion Website developer, you’ll get a fee for the inital design and a monthly maintenance fee. Setup this way, you can market yourself globally.
