Starting Out: It’s All About the Visual
January 16, 2009
It seems that a common entrepreneurial trait successful freelancers share is the ability to see “the big picture”. The big picture generally is a mental picture of one envisioning what they are, what they could be, and how things could be working. Many entrepreneurs sat for years at their corporate desks and envisioned their life after leaving the big dogs and running around the dog yard on their own.
For most entrepreneurs, the images they envision were not as scary as they would be for most people. In fact, the ability to clearly see how their lives would turn out if they took the risk, made the jump, took a leap of faith was the sole basis for their motivation that ultimately lead them to the successful solo path. There are many people that have extreme difficulty seeing the big picture and quite frankly, it is that type of person that should not pursue a career as a freelancer. There are even people who have no clue what the big picture is.
Most freelancers start out with a dream, find the motivation, and make their move. All along the way they are successfully picturing the outcome of every move they make. You have to be able to see the positives and keep moving forward. As in the theory of the law of attraction, by projecting the positives about what you want into the world, you will get what you want in return. Being able to see in your mind’s eye what it is you want, you are better able to find and follow that path that will actually take you there.
Freelancing is truly a leap of faith if you are just now thinking about making a switch from a stable job to the world of unsteady income. However, instead of focusing on the fact that money may be slow in coming to you, you should instead visualize yourself at your desk, watching the money come in. Instead of worrying about unforeseen incidents you have no control over, visualize yourself excelling at whatever it is you are doing in that new career.
Freelancing can be a wonderful and fulfilling life path but you first have to believe in yourself and your dreams. You can start out by going to bed each night and spending a few minutes creating your visual. Each night, as you lay down your head, close your eyes and add on to what you pictured the night before. Eventually, if you are able to get in the habit of making a visual of what you want, you will no longer have to be satisfied with just dreaming… you will soon be on your way to doing!
